How To Give

How can you strengthen your community?

YMCA programs and services nurture the potential of kids, promote healthy living and foster a sense of social responsibility. Your donation will help make sure that your neighbors can learn, grow and thrive at the Y regardless of their age, income or background.

There are many ways to make a gift that truly keeps on giving through the Y.

The mailing address is: 2121 Helton Drive, Florence, AL 35630.

Appreciated Securities
Notify us of your plans to donate stocks or bonds to the YMCA. Consult your tax professional to see if you qualify for tax deductions.

Real Estate
All gifts of real estate require prior approval by the YMCA Board of Directors. A gift of real estate may be a principal residence or vacation home, a farm, a commercial building, a lot, or unimproved land. Please notify the YMCA if you plan to make a gift of real estate.

Personal Property
If you would like to donate personal property to the YMCA, please contact us. Some gifts require appraisal or advance approval in order to be accepted.

Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)
If you are 70 ½ years old, you might be able to make a larger gift than you anticipated by directing your IRA distribution to the YMCA. A qualified charitable distribution (QCD) is a direct transfer of funds from your IRA custodian, payable to a qualified charity [which means to a 501(c)3 organization]. A QCD can be counted toward satisfying your required minimum distributions for the year. The money is a direct transfer that never passes through the hands of the IRA holder. An individual can give up to $100,000 a year using this giving vehicle. A couple can give up to $200,000.

Donor Advised Funds (DAF)
A donor-advised fund, which is like a charitable savings account, gives you the flexibility to recommend how much and how often money is granted to the YMCA of the Shoals and other charities.

In return, you qualify for a federal income tax charitable deduction at the time you contribute to the account. This also allows for a centralized giving and record-keeping system in one location.

DEFERRED OR PLANNED GIFTS

Bequest
The most common form of deferred gift is a bequest contained in a person’s will.

Life Insurance Policy
You can make the YMCA the owner and beneficiary of your life insurance policy. Contact your insurance professional for details.
