Financial Assistance

The YMCA of the Shoals makes every effort to ensure that no person, especially youth, will be denied access to programs because of financial hardship.

What is YMCA financial assistance?
To ensure that the YMCA is accessible to all, YMCA financial assistance provides for the needs of families and individuals who cannot afford the full cost of YMCA membership and programs. Applicants who qualify can receive a 10%-70% reduction to full-priced membership rates.

How is the amount of financial assistance determined?
We use a sliding fee scale based on total household income and the number of household members.

What if my income changes?
You are required to notify the YMCA within 60 days of any changes in household income or in household size.

What if I do not file taxes?
If you do not file taxes, we will accept 2 consecutive bank statements instead.

How long does my financial assistance last?
Financial assistance discounts will remain in effect as long as your membership remains active. If your membership is deactivated for any reason, you will be required to reapply for financial assistance.

How long does it take to begin receiving financial assistance?
Within 10 days of receiving your completed application and proper documentation, you will receive an award letter by e-mail and by regular mail with details of your financial assistance award and instructions to join.

Only YMCA staff will see your application. Applications are kept confidential and are not used for any other purpose than to assess program needs.
