The YMCA of the Shoals makes every effort to ensure that no person, especially youth, will be denied access to programs because of financial hardship.
What is YMCA financial assistance?
YMCA financial assistance provides for the needs of youth, families, and individuals who cannot afford the full cost of YMCA memberships and programs. The YMCA is committed to being accessible to all, and we work hard to support those who may be in challenging financial situations.
How is the amount of financial assistance determined?
We use a sliding fee scale based on total household income and the number of household members.
What does the YMCA consider “Income”?
We ask that applicants list all types of income and provide current documentation of income, including but not limited to: Earned Wages, Tips, Retirement, Social Security (SS), Supplemental Security (SSI), Disability, Unemployment, Child Support, Housing Assistance, Utility Allowance, and Food Stamps, or any other money that is coming into your household. Please remember to count the income of anyone living in your household and/or contributing to household.
For example, we need 2 current, consecutive pay stubs from your employer. If you receive Food Stamps we must have a copy of your award letter. If you receive SSI, we must have a copy of you award letter. We require current documentation of all income.
What if I do not file taxes?
If you do not file taxes, we will accept 2 consecutive bank statements instead.
How long does my financial assistance last?
For all applicants, financial assistance is granted for up to one calendar year from the award date. Renewals will be sent once a year after the initial award.
How long does it take to begin receiving financial assistance?
After we receive your completed application and proper documentation, we process your application and mail you an award letter within ten (10) business days. The letter will include information on your financial assistance award for the YMCA membership and programs and how to begin the process of receiving your reduced rate.
How is confidential information handled?
Only YMCA staff will see your application. Applications are kept confidential and are not used for any other purpose than to assess program needs.
How do I apply?
→ Complete and sign Financial Assistance Application.
→ Gather all proper documentation and return your application to the YMCA.
(Incomplete applications will delay your award)
